We are very proud to have been accredited as a "Friend of Eco-Schools" after fulfilling the entrance criteria. We are clearly aligned with the values of the movement and it is a natural step for the business to become fully involved.

The bees have settled down now so I thought that maybe I could do some talks in schools, I advertised and they seem quite popular. I have just finished the 1st couple of talks and they have had the happy side effect of generating business for the summer visits.

I have run 2 days of skep (the old fashioned straw type hive) making from the shed and Claire the garden manager has said that I can use some of the bottom part of the orchard field as a venue which is most kind. I am getting the hang of running the events now I think. Weleda have just booked me for 2 days next year when they have VIP days.
I have finally assembled my top bar hive and painted it white which is super cliche but looks amazing.
I have just had confirmation that the school that had the most visits this year are booking for next year already!! Hooray!

I have just been on a sun hive course in East Sussex, we built our own sun hive out of rye grass and I intend to put it up somewhere in the gardens and get a swarm in it. It was designed by a German sculpter and looks amazing. It has also just been my 20th wedding aniversary and Suzi has bought me a top bar hive so thats another hive type I can show visitors. All feeling very positive at the moment.

Well the school visit went really well, I learn a lot about how a session should be run and the children seemed to love it.
Nobody got stung which is always a bonus.
Anne Welch the eco schools officer for Derbyshire came along and offered some helpful advice which was greatfully received.
Some changes have been made to the way the sessions will be run from now on and I think for groups above 16 or so I am going to have some extra help so the inside groups are better organised.
I have had my 1st booking to be held on the 1/6 which I am eagerly anticipating.
I am going to try and get some more advertising made out so more people can see what we are all about.
Onwards and upwards!!!

OK so it was the Weleda staff but still they where the 1st group to visit and they had children around 8-10 years old which is the target audience (and I did it for free so they were guinea pigs). It went really well. Next stop paying guests!!!!

Ok its been a while but I have renovated the shed (nearly) got most of the things I need to get started. I need to advertise shortly and pray that people are interested enough to give it a go.
